Many Addicts / Alcoholics are Very Intelligent People
Yes its true!
The ONE thing that nearly all addicts and alcoholics have in common is Perfectionism.
It can be a double edge sword if someone is ever trying to convince someone to quit drinking and or using and they are not ready, they will often begin to protect their right to continue with their solution for living, often in a delusional state of mind, with deep seeded fears, believing 100% in what they say and in the promises they make, feeling misunderstood and that their case is different.
Or they may be feeling they are too far gone and over whelmed on where to start or ever getting their lives together again.
The great news is once a person is detoxed and their minds are clear, they are often some of the best employees, business owners, family members, problem solvers in the world as their disposition is discovered, though in order to recover and for longevity we must first realize our need to be perfectionist and then tone it down, find a happy medium that is more in acceptance of things in life and more open minded to change.
We can use this new understanding of ourselves in the future (As a mental Red Flag, we are in relapse mode) when we see our perfectionism creeping back into our lives, its time to get back to basics and tone it down again.
Call me a dreamer but I believe that nearly all addicts/alcoholics can recover if approached the right way.
